Ever since I finished Insanity, I’ve been a little lost with my workout routine. Following a strict workout routine for over 2 months got me into the habit of challenges, and now that I don’t have one, I’m definitely not feeling like working out. I wanted to try Jamie Eason’s LiveFit, but I am still sore after day 1, thus leading to me not doing any of the following days (today should be day 4). Whoops. So maybe I went in to that program too hard.
So, what are my choices to get back on the wagon?
Try Another Challenge
Do I lower my weights for LiveFit and try again? I got my agility ladder for Insanity Asylum, do I do that? (it would certainly help me at our soccer games, which started last night). I could also do the entire TurboFire program or start training for a half marathon.
To decide what challenge is best, it’s important to outline your goals, which can hopefully help you choose a new program or challenge. I know my long-standing goals have always been to tone up and possibly lose weight (although losing inches is much more important), as well as increase endurance. Which of the above programs would help the most?
Length, cost, and commitment are also factors here.
Outline a Weekly Schedule
For the first few weeks after Insanity I just worked out when I felt like it. Scheduling my workouts like I do my meals will help me think of exercise as more of a daily assignment, this hopefully keeping me on track.
Find Sneaky Ways to Exercise
I may not feel like doing a 60 minute TurboFire video, but I can almost always be talked into taking a walk, especially when it’s so nice out (and I have 2 dogs!). So if you don’t feel like doing your normal workout routine, try something else instead, like a walk or some accidental exercise.
Phone a Friend
The co-ed soccer team I’m playing on an managing will always be a good workout because I feel accountable to my team. Whenever I don’t feel like working out, it’s good to have a friend there that I’m meeting or who is willing to exercise with me.
Do Something Fun
I’m doing the Dirty Girl Mud Run Saturday and in the past have done the Color Run and a handful of other 5ks. Doing some fun exercise, like a themed race, canoeing, going to a trampoline park, or playing HORSE at the playground basketball courts are all fun activities that can count as exercise.
Pinterest is a great place to find motivational images and quotes when it comes to working out. Sometimes when I need a boost, I’ll visit my quotes or Heath and Fitness boards and get a little dose of the “I can do its”!
