Being relatively new to the protein scene (I’ve only been using it regularly for about 3 years), I was very excited to get the chance to review some products from DesignerWhey on behalf of FitFluential this month. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but my box from DesignerWhey was filled with TONS of goodies, including:
- 3 flavors of protein bars
- 2 flavors of protein powder
- 3 flavors of protein to go drink mixes
- Coupons for Smari yogurt
Normally, I try to eat a protein rich breakfast and then have a high protein snack if I’m hungry and think I might end up eating something crappy. So, I was excited to have an entire box of products I could try.
DesignerWhey Protein Bars
The box contained 3 flavors of protein bars: Peanut Butter Crunch, Chocolate Caramel Crunch, and Triple Chocolate. They were all pretty good but the peanut butter was definitely my favorite. The triple chocolate might have been too chocolaty for me, but I’m someone who NEVER eats candy (Halloween and Christmas excluded).
DesignerWhey High-Protein Shakes
These shakes were definitely my favorite things in the entire box. Both the chocolate and vanilla flavors were awesome and I wish I had more, especially with the protein to calorie ratio of 100 calories and 18 grams of protein. (In a nutrition class I took this year, they told me that you should look for products that have a ratio of at least 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories, so I try to use that as a guideline.)
DesignerWhey Protein Powder
Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to try the protein powders DesignerWhey sent me yet, but I am especially excited about the Luscious Strawberry, especially because I love strawberry-flavored milk and it is different from the flavors I usually buy for myself– chocolate and vanilla. The box did have a Vanilla Almond flavor, so I’m looking forward to the almond flavor, especially because I usually drink my smoothies and protein shakes with almond milk instead of regular milk.
Also, it’s awesome that these powders have a protein to calorie ratio or 100 calories to 16 grams of protein.
The box had all three flavors of DesignerWhey Protein 2GO®: Lemonade, Mixed Berry, and Tropical Orange. I wasn’t the biggest fan of lemonade, but mixed berry was good and tropical orange was my favorite. They are single serving powder mixes that you pour into a water bottle. I really like this because I need to drink a lot more water and drink more of it when it is flavored.
The protein and calorie ratios are great for this product too– 50 calories and 10 grams of protein.
Smári Organic Icelandic Yogurt
The box also contained coupons for Smári yogurt, which is sold at Whole Foods in my area (the Kansas City Metro). I sheepishly admit, I haven’t tried it yet either, but I am excited to try organic yogurt and see if it’s different from the yogurt I usually buy (Fit N Light Greek yogurt– 80 calories and 12 grams of protein). Smari comes in strawberry, vanilla, pure (plain?), and blueberry. The yogurt comes from grass-fed, free-range cows, which is awesome, since I buy grass-fed, free-range meat whenever possible.
Overall, I enjoyed everything I had time to try in the box. I will definitely be finishing all my products. Thank you to FitFluential and DesignerWhey for allowing me to test out DW and Smari products!
